Event Type: gt, century, tandems, only
Organized By: Nathan & Kristen Dinges
Latest Activity: Mar 26
Nathan and I will be doing a century ride from our house in late march to prepare for Redbud Ride April 13th. Cue Sheets and GPS files will be provided by us. We will also provide some food at the ride start. I will make homemade protein balls and banana bread. The ride will start and finish at our house, please feel free to use our restrooms and/or showers. We also have room for guests if anyone would like to come from out of town but not drive home after a century.
Some notes on the ride:
Bring cash. You will need to purchase food on the route.
Stop 1. (28.2 miles) Cheryl and Ian's Home - restroom
Stop 2. (54.7 miles) Gas station in Carthage IN - food/drink/restrooms
Stop 3. (87.8 miles) Greenfield/New Pal - Frosty Boy/Fast Food/Gas Stations/ Drugstores
Stop 4. (95.8 miles) Buck Creek Winery - restrooms/food/wine
There will be probably 1-2 other stops just along the roadside. And it is early so we can stop as many times as anyone needs to to get off the saddles.
Pace: Conversational Pace 14-15mph Average is my guess. This is a GT Ride, no one will be left behind.
Bring food:
It never hurts to pack some PBJ or cliff bars in the trunk bag. What we did last year was pack PBJ for lunch. Lunch is at the Gas station shop in Carthage. Once there we refilled our bottles with Gatorade and bought chips, hard boiled eggs, cucumber salad and pasta salad to complete a protein packed lunch.
CamelBaks are advised because water stops are few and far between and there just isn't enough water in one bottle to make it.
Ride Time:
The plan as of now is to meet up at 8:30 at our house and be on the road by 9. I expect to be out until almost dinner time. Centuries in the cold and early in the season tend to go a little slower than your late August hundreds.
I hope this info helps. I know we have all done long rides but maybe this will be your first century unsupported. It's a different ball game when you don't have SAGs to lean on but it will be more fun with you guys included than doing it alone like we have in the past.
THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED IN THE CIBA CALENDAR AND IS OPEN TO TANDEMS ONLY DUE TO RIDE LENGTH AND STYLE.
Hope to see you out there.
Please email neddingo21@me.com for a GPS File of the route.

Comment by Shawn and Sandra Tresselt on March 26, 2013 at 3:28pm Looking forward to building some saddle time with you all. We need to be in Bloomington by 6:30pm and it is over an hour drive from your house to IU. Can you provide us with a short cut if we need it so we can be back to your house by 5pm?
Comment by Nathan & Kristen Dinges on March 14, 2013 at 9:01pm My Friend Salina Hernandez is making Tamales on the 30th for sale $1/each. She is Fundraising for her kids. She sells her excellent authentic chicken tamales with red(regular) or green(HOT) salsa. Her home is in my neighborhood so it is a perfect dinner opportunity for anyone who doesn't want to cook dinner after the ride. Nathan and I will be ordering a dozen. If you would like to put in an order for tamales let me know and I will be sure she puts your order aside for pickup :)
